great and greats
crazy how we make kids through kids
and forever on down that line by line,
and yet we'll never really know
all those that carry what we sow.
i suppose that's why we want to know
our past we hold within
and seek to find the reasons why
long before we say goodbye.
makes me wonder if those great and greats
wondered how we'd be doing,
or if they merely struggled to stay alive
through steely grit and drive.
i wouldn't put it past them though,
as they put their soreness to rest
to think of me and we and our own kind
Lord knows what they might find.
we all care what happens hence
then why can't we stick around,
to discover where our seeds have blown
and find what we have sown?
they always grow and grown be gone
initially thinking they don't care,
but eventually they'll wonder just like me
how their children's children's children be.
